Hidden Bar Hopping With A Local
Join me for a night out in town !!! We will be going to my top favorite speakeasy bars (3 or 4 hidden bars) around Pasar Seni (close to Chinatown). Each has a different theme and ambiance. The KL Urban jungle has lots of hidden doors that lead to amazing sights, smells, and sounds. Plus, we'll go for a nice dinner around the area so you can enjoy the local food. On top of that, we will be walking from one location to another and that would also be a part of the experience where you can enjoy the night lights around Old KL City (Pasar Seni). I would like to share the experiences and excitement that these bars have given me when I'm out drinking with my friends. We'll discuss various topics, especially about Southeast Asia, Malaysia, and Kuala Lumpur, or where ever the conversation leads us. If you guys would like to continue the night, I would be more than happy to suggest clubs or bars. Note: Cocktails may cost from RM 30 to RM 50 per glass. Beers may cost from RM 13 to RM 20 per bottle/can. For men, shoes are required.

Dragonback Trek
The Dragonback Trek has been my signature trek for the last 11 years offering a superb once in a lifetime view. This is a fully guided trekking trip with a cheerful host. Group size are kept very small and personal for comfort and safety from 2- 6 pax maximum. A short 30 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur City Centre would bring you to a local Malaysian suburb. At the top of the ridge expect to get a panoramic view of pristine virgin jungle on one side, and KL city on the other. The whole trek will take around 2.5 – 3 hours (depending on fitness level) inclusive of rest stops and photo snapping sessions. We will pick you up bright and early in the morning from your Airbnb accommodation at 6.30am. Trips typically lasts from 6.30am to 11.30am local time. A fresh set of clothes (t-shirt, shorts and flip flops) would make the experience all the more comfortable as you would be super sweaty, yet satisfied after the trek. The dates blocked are for scheduling purposes. Do let us know among our 5 favorite trips (Backcountry Cycling, Banana Waterfall Trek, Cultural Riverside Cycling), alternative date and group size and we will try to assist. Message us via Airbnb.

Fishing for Future with Biologist
We'll challenge the big fishes in a sport-fishing pond with rod-and-line, and learn more about these fishes, fishing, fishery, and aquaculture. We'll meet at Ko-Nelayan Mini Aquaculture Park, and start our program with a visit to the coral and fish nursery. We shall learn about different coral growth form and why corals are important for the fishes, as well as how aquaculture of fish is done and why is it important in food sustainability. We'll then start our 3-hour fishing experience by a brief on the fishing gear and rig I've prepared, or you may just cast the bait out and wait. While waiting for fish to bite, we may discuss on anything related to fish biology and ecology, as well as sustainable fishing and fishery. When a fish is hooked, I'll do my best to help you land the fish by giving useful tips and advice. Once the fish is landed, we'll take measurement and photos as quickly as possible, before releasing it. Enjoy the stunning sunset while fishing (if the weather is right), and you may opt to catch-and-cook some table size Hybrid Grouper if you're happy to buy it at market price. Other things to note I'll prepare suitable rod, reel, line, hook, and bait according to your style and preference of target fish. You may choose to use your own gear, rig, and bait if you wish, but please enquire in advance regarding legality and suitability.
Community Farm & Fish below Kinabalu
We will be experiencing the life of traditional farmers of Tambatuon Village, a Dusun village nestled in the shadow of the twin peaks - Mount Kinabalu & Mount Nungkok. I will provide my best interpretation of all flora & fauna encountered along the way, and of their traditional significance. We shall meet by 9am at De'Sawah Guesthouse in Tambatuon Village. This village is known for its organic farming and a successful community river conservation program, or locally known as Tagal Sungai. After a welcome drink, and depends on the weather condition, we will start our day as either farmers or fishers. As farmers, we shall experience traditional farming work on rice paddy, cassava, and various vegetables & fruits depending on season. As fishers, we shall try to catch fish using traditional techniques within the designated harvest zone of the Tagal. We will then cook & eat our harvest from the farm and river in the most traditional way as you can accept. After lunch, we may continue to explore around the village or just hang out around the guesthouse to experience the making of rattan handicraft, or swim with tamed river fish in the fully protected zone of the Tagal. We shall end our program around 3pm, and you're free to continue exploring the village or nearby attractions.
Kinabalu Sunrise Hike with Naturalist
We will explore the community forest of Maragang (possibly the highest community-conserved area in Malaysia), with the community naturalists of Mesilau, some are also the most experienced Kinabalu mountain guides. With the right weather, we shall witness a stunning sunrise on the majestic Mount Kinabalu! After registration by 3.30am at Maragang Hill Office in Kampung Mesilau, our community naturalist will brief us on safety precautions along the 1.6km-trail before moving on to the starting point. Enjoy the high altitude hike at your own pace in cool crispy mountain air, and keep an eye out for nocturnal critters like insects, spiders & litter frogs. We may be treated with beautiful star sky, or even the milkyway, if you arrive at the peak early, and if the sky is clear. Arriving at the right time & weather, we may witness a stunning sunrise & sea of clouds at the top of Maragang Hill, and marvel at the light changes on the majestic Mount Kinabalu. At 2200m, this could be the only spot one can be so close to Mount Kinabalu without participating in the official 2D1N climb. Our hike down the hill will take you through fairytale-like mossy forest, where you can learn from us about many plant, insect, and bird species found only in the montane forests. Other things to note The hike will be in high altitude, and in the dark, please check if you have any medical condition.
Explore Wetland in a City with Biologist
We'll explore an intertidal ecosystem in the heart of Kota Kinabalu City, discovering rich flora & fauna living in the mangrove & marsh of Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre. After a quick introduction to the history & geography of this wetland, I'll lead you along the boardwalk and try to point out the many unique plants & animals living in the mangrove swamp. At the bird-watching hide, we'll stop for a few moments to observe the many water birds living in the marsh, an unique habitat in the city. At the view tower, we have the opportunity to see the city over the canopy of mangrove forest, a green jewel in KK City rehabilitated from destruction decades ago. Now above the trees, we get to appreciate mangrove life from a different perspective. Along the journey I'll share interesting stories about creatures encountered, especially on their unique adaptations to survive in the harsh habitat of mangrove. Also I'll highlight the importance of wetlands for the migratory birds, creatures that connect the world. If you feel adventurous, we may walk onto a mud trail and experience how it feels to live in a mangrove swamp. Along the trail we'll come across a nursery, where you may try to plant some mangrove seedlings picked up along the walk, and learned about the unique reproductive biology of red mangroves. Back at the centre, you may wash off & leave or continue to explore by yourself Other things to note Please wear bootie if ready to get wet & muddy. Alternatively bring additional footwear or be prepared to walk on barefoot. Animal sightings vary with tidal & weather conditions.

We will spend an afternoon exploring a typical street food scene. Eating in some establishments which have been in the same family for generations. At least four of our foodie stops will be dine-in (rice, noodle, pastry) while the rest, we will be eating standing next to the food carts!!
